What is EMDR?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a structured therapy that enables people to heal from distressing events and traumas in their lives. EMDR leads clients to briefly focus on a traumatic memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (eye movements, tapping, audio) which has shown to reduce the vividness and “charge” associated with the distressing memories.

EMDR was originally developed (Francine Shapiro, 1987) to treat

Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and has since been proven as a powerful treatment in the following conditions:

  • Panic Attacks

  • Anxiety

  • Phobias

  • Grief

  • Disturbing memories

  • Depression

  • Addictions

  • Pain Disorders
